Worth upgrading from (used) 7970 to (used) 680?

Not worth the money and effort really as they are similarly performing cards. Stick with what you have.

I am really interested in your experiences from both. Are the drivers that much better in the green camp? Is the gameplay smoother?

Right now I am playing a bit of Metro LL and at 1080p full detail (no physx) game is smooth but not perfect. Also Fifa13 while it used to play great at 1080p full, now the new drivers are so-so.

The drivers aren't better, and it'll be a downgrade.

If you really want PhysX effects, buy a cheap nVidia card to use as a secondary PhysX card whilst keeping your 7970 as the primary card.
