I have a radeon 9800 pro 128 at the moment

thinking of maybe getting a X850 pro (dunno what the Nvidia alternatives are)

however, I am only running a 2500XP.

which I think is the limiting factor, the 9800pro is OC-able to XT speeds and the 2500 to 3200 speeds both will run stable.

looking to play some better games like CoH and oblivion, not looking to max out performance of games but have them looking half decent will be good.

Hi mate

No doubt that either a second user X850 or 6800 ( gt/ultra/le unlocked ) will do the job, you could try for a 7300 gt or 7600 gt but anything above that range and due to cpu then you'll be falling into diminished returns.

Hope that helps

thanks

the 7600 gt looks decent to be had for about 120 new which isnt too bad.

the 2nd hand X850s are pretty pricey.

for searching, to me looks like X850 gives slightly better framerates but the 7600GT has SM3, DX9.0c which although not a major thing appeals to me as then I can use it for longer before I upgrade my whole system.

performance-wise they look pretty equal to me, unless anyone else has something to add?

Agree with the above, 7600 GT, its faster than the 6800 Ultra and is a cracking price, you'll also be able to use it for longer before you upgrade your system as you would like. :)

depens on how much u want to spend and what you want to play and at what rez but i went from a 9800pro to a 7600gs and for £65 its an amazing difference.
