Im surprised you need an FPS boost in CSS?

What fps you getting?

On open maps(militia) - 40 man server when the spam starts 40 ish. Brother has a sandybridge system and tbh on the same maps his fps is about the same both have not been overclocked so im presuming the gfx is bottlenecking it?

Are you playing on a standard TFT monitor or CRT?

If TFT you will only be able to display 60 fps anyway due to the refresh rate (unless you are using a 120hz tft) so any upgrade purely for CSS may be pointless.

I also wouldn't be convinced that a 5830 is bottle necking CSS in anyway as I can happily run CSS on my crap laptop with its cack IGP at 40-50 fps.

Using this monitor - Samsung P2450H 24". V sync is disabled, on small maps fps is around the 200 mark just in open detailed maps seems to be 40 +.

Probably just poorly optimized maps tbh, Source engine is really old now so it's not taxing your machine (esp not sandybridge).

What GPU does your bro use? It might be your GPU but I'd be surprised as Source is so old.

I would have to check, i think it could be a 560ti. Think ill have to get some new games and check the performance. Thanks for the input :)

I play source all the time on 1920x1200 full detail with a PII940 which is actually currently at 3.2ghz and a 3870 512mb and I don't see any problems other than I'm seeing a little RAM bottleneck. I'll have a look for a milita server later and see if I have an issue with it.

To answer your question however, it is very worth upgrading your gfx card rather than getting a new system, 7 series are almost here I'd wait until they hit incase prices take a dive.
