My 2GB GTX560Ti TwinFrozr II has served me well but I'm wondering if it's possible to get a significant performance increase for a reasonable price yet? By reasonable, I mean 300 quid or less. Ideally, any upgrade has to be just as quiet/cool as my existing card.

Last time I toyed with this the answer was a resounding no so am curious if things have changed? Rig specs in sig. :)

A 780 will be well over double the speed but priced over £350, it could be well over your budget. The 290 at just over £300 with a custom cooler could be the way to go but don't expect them till after Chrimbo.

So if I pushed the boat out for a Gainward GTX780 Phantom 3072MB card, it'd blow my current one out of the water and I'd see a massive improvement? I'm gaming at 1920x1200.

These are on this week only for £390 but not sure what the general opinion of Gainward is. Never had one. It'd mean I'd have a Phantom in my Phantom, yo. I can flog a few bits to justify the extra cost if it's really worth it.

I went from a 580 to 290X so yes the 780 would be a considerable improvement to your 560.

I'd imagine this link will convince you of the benefits of a 780 :P

As a couple of examples Crysis 3 on very high goes from 22FPS to 52, and something like Sleeping Dogs goes from 47 to over 90.

Flippin' heck, that settles it. I normally won't go for an upgrade unless it's a 2x performance jump - this definitely meets the criteria!

Why are there such massive price disparities across the 780 cards? The difference at a glance seems to be a few MHz on the 3072MB cards. Any advice on which cards are the quietest?

The quietest ones are any of the non-reference coolers ones.

I can only really speak experience of the MSI Gaming Twin Frozr version, it's pretty quiet, I only start to hear a faint murmur at 90% fan.

Cheers... I think I'm going to wait until payday and go for an MSI (MSI Geforce GTX 780 Gaming Edition OC 3072MB) - the MSI cards I've had in the past have been no trouble at all and have overclocked nicely. Spending a bit more than I'd hoped but I doubt it's an upgrade I'll need to do again anytime soon. I'll flog some bits to offset against the cost.

Ta muchly :)
