Worth upgrading my AMD 4400 X2 to an Intel E6700?

would recommend that you go for a 6600 or even a 6300 as you can overclock them to 6700 speeds and beyond

lol it is, but it really depends on what you wanna do with it. they are massively faster in encoding tasks, slightly faster in general windows usage and realistically not very much faster in a majority of gaming.

so yeah, depends on your priorities:)

Well, I do all the usual things - but I do wonder how well code compiles on it. Any time saved compiling would be a 'good thing' :)

Any C2D at 2.8 would be worth your while. Don't bother with an E6700 - too expensive. Get a cheaper one and overclock it.

If you're X2 gear is 939 you should get a very decent price for it, they're pretty hot atm.

E6400 & DS4
or
E6600 & P5B Deluxe

Those would be popular options.
