i have an AMD duel core x2 5000 black edition in my shuttle (spec in sig) and was wondering if i would gain much from upgrading it either to a 6000 or to a quad core, that is if my shuttle supports it, i can't check at the mo as work block the shuttle site for some daft reason!

what do you think?

Depends on what you use it for.

Going to a 6000 will show little difference in games, maybe a bit if you do video encoding.

Same with a quad as not many games use all 4 cores on a quad (although that may change soon) but it would be a big boost to applications which do use all 4 cores.

will have to wait til i get home to find out what my shuttle will take, are AMD planning to release any new X2 cpu's anytime soon?

It does all depend on your motherboard really. :)

You will hardly notice anything from a X2 5000 to a X2 6000. Maybe in encoding and transcoding video.

Overall performance will be better with QUAD Core. It will snap the applications open instantly for you. The system will be much more responsive all round.

But due to games / encoding / transcoding programs not correctly utilizing all 4 cores this will be on similar performance to your current X2 5000. Everything else boosted quite a bit.

McT :D
