Worth upgrading my current ram?

Hey, I currently have the following ram;

And I'm looking at upgrading to this;

The motherboard I have (Maximus hero vii) only allows ddr3 but up to 3200mhz. Is this worth paying £110 for the upgrade from 8gb to 16gb and the speed increase from 1600mhz to 2400mhz? Am I really going to notice a difference or is it wise saving that £110 and putting it towards a 1070 when I eventually travel down that route.

There are YouTube videos showing the affect of faster RAM in games. If you are upgrading the speed I would be looking to move up to 2666MHz at least.
A step up in GPU though will bring you larger gains.

I agree I know 16gb is going to future proof me more than 8gb. I just wasn't sure if it was a while upgrade now or hold out. I find most the time I'm running almost 100% on my ram so I guess I've answered my own question and should just go for it.

Whilst I'm sure 2666mhz is nice, a quick google shows it's a lot more than the one I posted. Not sure I'd be prepared to pay that this time around unfortunetly.

In the end, we know the results presented in this article won't change the world, not even among PC gaming enthusiasts. But given the small price difference between basic and high-end RAM, it pays to make an educated decision. Unlike with CPUs and video cards, the cost delta between the cheapest kit and most expensive 8GB kit is often $20 or less, depending on the day you're shopping. So this is our advice to all the gamers out there contemplating their next RAM purchase:

  • Spend money on higher-speed RAM before you jump from 8GB to 16GB, as it plays a bigger (albeit still minor) role in gaming performance.
  • If you're picking up a new RAM kit for an existing PC, get whatever fits in your budget - DDR3-1600 is typically cheapest, but if you can find DDR3-1866 or DDR3-2133 within a few dollars of DDR3-1600, consider it a small but worthwhile upgrade.
  • If you're buying or building a new PC from scratch and spending more than $1,000 on it, we'd urge you to go with DDR3-1866 or DDR3-2133 for the build, assuming you find RAM with timings similar to what we tested (and a rating of 1.5V).
  • Only the most die-hard gamers should bother with DDR3-2400 (or above) - the extra voltage cancels out the very slight performance boost in our view. That being said, if a DDR3-2400 kit is the same price as lesser kits, by all means pick it up, try it for yourself, and feel free to downclock/undervolt it if you decide the extra wear and tear on the system isn't worth it to you.
IMHO unless its the same price or only a little bit more expensive then stick with 1600mhz ram. The gains are mininal.
