worth upgrading my current rig

im thinking of going to a c2d system,cause i find my current rig is getting on a bit,got my mind set on an e6600,evga680i mobo and corsair 2gb 6400xms c4 ram kit,will i notice much of an improvement in games (mainly cod2 and joint ops) if i move to this set up as opposed to what i currently have, i mainly like to play games on my 20 inch display at 1680x1050 whenever possible

I'm not sure that it will be a massive increase but that 8800GTS you have will definately work more efficiently coupled with a c2d and set of 6400 ram.

Are you planning on clocking?

thanks for your advice mishima, a friend offered to buy my current cpu mobo and ram for 300 quid, i hope its a fair price cause i wouldnt wanna rip him of

I'd say £200-£250 would be more of a fair price mate.

I wouldn't upgrade. Just overclock the CPU. You've got a good system, it's not like it has A64 3000 and 512MB of RAM.
