Currently have a custom HTPC which consists of -

  • AMD Athlon 5350 APU
  • 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
  • OCZ 60GB Sata3 SSD
  • Kodi 15.2 as its OS.

It does what i need it to,However during 1080p playback i can see from pressing "o" that at best i get 23.96 fps.

Im only using a 32" 1080p 100Hz TV but do you think i could get sharper image quality (and more fps) if i upgrade to faster ram as i heard these APUs love fast ram and maybe get a AMD discreet card to run together with the APU?

Upgrade the ram by all means, but DVD/hd video is like 23/24fps anyways as that's how its made, my system in my sig is better than yours and I only touch 23/24fps, I watch hd x264 files.

I have a 3850 on mine for HD freesat, plays bluray mkv fine also. I upgraded it with a slim sapphire 6670 . plays bf4 on medium. I dont really see why you would need an upgrade myself unless your just looking to spend money anyway :p. I literally stuck a gpu in mine purely because my partner wanted to play some games... otherwise its perfectly fine for HD videos.
I have 120GB Crucial M4, 1866 ram (8GB), cooling is my only issue in my case as it only excepts 70mm fans........ Oh and my tv is Sony Bravia 50 inch 1080p picture is damn near perfect so no complaints with that either :)
