Had it a while and building a new rig this week (skylake 6700 build) was wondering if I should be replacing my gcard or hanging on.

I don't think I can justify the 1070s but anything else worth going for.

Currently playing arma and will be getting BF1

980Ti/1070 are the minimum cards worth upgrading to. If they are out of budget then you might as well hang on a bit longer. It's not like the 290X is slow :D

Cool I will hang on and pick up a 1070 towards the end of the year. Just spent 1k on the new rig. Feel I should do the card as well at some point.

I wouldn't go 980ti, It defeats the point of a total build upgrade if you get a last gen gpu, even if it is a beast. I'd wait for Vega and see what that offers and you may get around 1070 performance for a bit less or a 1070 might drop in price slightly.

what resolution are you at? even upto 1440p lower the settings down to high and you'll still be able to play games. Personally I'd wait for vega (y)

Now getting 45 fps at 4k ultra in doom with vulcan and over 100 fps at 1080p.

V nice free boost

only 9% behind a stock 1070 in doom now.

Its amazing how 1 patch with a new API can drastically and i mean drastically alter the gaming Landscape...

What i will say is this, AMD for many years have built hardware that has never fully been exploited, some of these new API's can actually manage to exploit and utilise that hardware and it is paying insane dividends..

Yes we have only seen a small glimpse, but if this is what is to come, then times are good for AMD, of course we need to see how Nvidias cards cope with Vulkhan etc when its implemented to support their hardware correctly...

Will be interesting to see how Vega is when its released, and the adoption of Vulkhan and DX12 going forward, if the API's get good exposure in some high volume AAA games, they could well become the norm going forward, and if AMD cards have the traditional edge going forward in these titles, you may well see a major shift in marketshare.
