If you want the option of going SLI later upgrade mobo to something like this one

Thanks for the build, but I was wondering when I bought my current PC it was a price around what Iam willing to spend now and I got 4 years out of it, So id really prefer to get a new machine that will last 3 to 4 years hopefully.

So I guess what I'm asking is will the build quoted above be reasonable future proof or is it worth spending the extra for a faster machine ?

I was thinking initially of the overclocked I7 930 bundle with an ATI 5870 or is that just overkill atm

Overkill, not really. The combination is a great upgrade.

The new AMD 6* range are out soon so maybe worth holding off for that. However, if you just upgraded the graphics card you may run into bottlenecking but it will still out perform the GTX you have, as i found out when i upgraded mine recently.
