Hey guys, Is my current spec worth upgrading? It is used for games mostly my graphics card recently died, so I am currently using the onboard one, and whilst looking at new graphics cards to purchase, I wondered if it was doing a complete rebuild?

If it is worth upgrading, what would you suggest? I have about £1500 to spend

The 2500k will be showing its age now and your budget is more than enough to make a good build now.

Would you keep case/storage/psu or anything?

Reusing your old case and storage:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,155.60 (includes shipping: £11.70)

You can save a bit on some components. There are cheaper mobos and 1070tis but this would be a massive upgrade over your current system and should last a very long time.

I have the same motherboard and its been an absolute gem for me. I'm hoping to upgrade soon from a 2500k and I'm thinking to stick with AsRock motherboard

what graphics card did you have?

while you got a nice budget, unless your system is struggling, then just add more ram, overclock if you can and get a 1060, then either spend the money elsewhere that isnt tech related or put it to one side for when the new releases of the upcoming stuff comes out.

The Team Group 8Gb set has the same timings as your present memory. And the Aorus is a better card (same brand) for the same money (check dimensions and that it will fit in your case):

And, yes, if you clock your 2500K @ 4.4GHz (approx) then combined with the above combo it will totally revitalise your rig at 1080p gaming, until you're ready to completely upgrade.

those would certainly tie you over till you decide if you need a new build if what you do currently progresses and the 1060 be a very good card to transfer to that new system also.

just to throw this out there if you changed your mind and wanted newer and based round your chosen 1060 at only £300 more then this be a good shout, okay its 8gb rather than 16gb, i just wanted to put the idea out so you know you can get something good, but dont need to spend anywhere near a grand nevermind 1500

Thanks Plec, I have Kingston RAM already that was why I asked about the Kingston, the Team Group Red 8GB is out of stock unfortunately!

That's not a problem - you would manually slacken the timings of your original memory to match the new Kingston memory - you wouldn't notice any speed difference.

The fact that they're not matched pairs may make it a bit fiddly - sometimes mixed memory don'y play well together - but if you macth the timings and voltages you shouldn't have any issues (in theory - i never have.)

Be sure to update your MB to the latest BIOS for the new GPU - as your board may well need the improved PCI-e compatability to get it running.

Also, be aware that your clock may be limited to 4.3/4.4GHz due to all the DIMM slots being used - as it puts extra stress on the IMC (integrated memory controller). This isn't a problem - just a heads up in case you can't hit your anticipated clock target.
