Hello all, i have a pentium d 915 2.8Mhz and ime thinking of upgrading it to a core2duo E6600 2.4Mhz. would there be much difference in say start up times? I know the E6600 is quite old now but its the best my motherboard will take.

It'll be quite a lot faster, despite the lower clockspeed. Since you've already verified compatability, i'd say go for it. Should be a very noticable difference in any situation where your CPU is limiting you.

I had an 805 D. I rendered a short film on it in Cinema 4D. Took over a week for all the shots. It was hitting 60 deg at stock speed ! Still, did a sterling job at the time :-)

I have just swapped out my Quad core & slung in an E6600 myself. Without even loading windows I clocked it to 3.0Ghz & after a day of TIM burn in I've upped it to 3.2Ghz & Yes I am expecting more :D
In my opinion you cannot buy a better value CPU for gaming than the E6600.
