You've got exactly the same setup as my brother, bar the blu ray drive.
His system is not far off mine when both are on stock settings. My DDR3 and SLI system eats benchmarks compared to his system. But gaming wise he can run at the same settings as me.

I don't know, but I'm guessing your Q6600 would be a B3 chip. Meaning that you won't be able to clock it that far. Personally I'd be happy with what you've already got.

Although you could do it much cheaper, yes it is always worth it to overclock. You should get a better cooler and thermal compound though;)

thanks for the comments :) think i would benefit more from a graphic card upgrade? , like the gtx 260 ? ive been told my cpu will bottleneck that card though :( is it worth buying that and selling my 8800gtx?

You're really going to need 3ghz+ to make proper use of a 260/280. Think you're eventually going to need to upgrade both gpu and cpu(or overclock). 8800gtx isn't the best these days but it's not dead so if i were you id do what i could to overclock the cpu and then later on sell the 8800 and get a 260.

Another option is that you sell your whole system and then add the 300 quid you were going to spend onto that and build a new system from scratch. xps 720 are going for a fair whack on ebay
