Worth upgrading to 8800gt?

Hi - would welcome advice on whether my system spec would make upgrading to an 8800gt worthwhile or not? Got around £100 to spend as don't want to fork out on a new system for a while yet.

Currently have:

Athlon 3500+
6600gt
XP
1.5 gb ram (one dodgy stick seems to crash the system! Hence weird amount)
Corsair 520w power supply

So basically would the limited ram/cpu restrict the graphics too much to make it worth upgrading? Presume the PSU would be fine.

Cheers and thanks

The 8800GT is still a very fine card, and will absolutely fly whatever the bottlenecks compared to your current GPU.

Just buy the cheapest one you can find, maybe one with a quieter aftermarket cooler?

get em for about 40 quid on 939 and a 3870xt would be better all round.3500 is a single core so i know which id go for.the diff betweeen he 3870xt and the 8800gt is not going to be that much .

Blimey loads more replies - thanks!

Mobo is an Asus P5Ne I think! Had it a good few years, not got the paperwork here as moved recently so lots of stuff in storage. Defo PCI-e anyway.

The CPU route is interesting but want to upgrade system fully sometime in nearish future (3-6 months) so just want a temp boost to play newer titles. Also don't want to go down that route, reinstall xp etc if I can avoid it. Have had nightmares changing components in the past so want to try avoiding a rebuild - especially as my xp install seems rather temperamental at times.

Thanks all though - much appreciated feedback.
