Bigger box!
Hi,

I was very close to upgrading my whole rig but sadly the Mrs is a bit griefy so I'm stuck with my old Abit AI7 board for now.
Simple question, what's the most powerful AGP card availible and is it going to be capable of playing games like COD 4 etc??
Obviously I dont expect amazing resolutions and all the bells and whistles, just want to avoid stuttering and anything that will make the games unplayable.

Cheers :)

x1950xtx is out for the agp, but as mentioned above hold out for a while incase the 3850 makes its appearance on agp. but do thake into account that ati's agp driver support has been very shoddy at best, so if considering an ati agp upgrade so consult with the rage3d forums to see if the agp issues have finally been sorted out.

I had an AGP x1950pro and i think they are a good card for what they are but the AGP version can be quite expensive - I got a good price selling mine. It would depend what the rest of your system is like to say whether it's worth spending much on an AGP graphics card that you won't be able to keep if you build a new system later. If it's a lower end system and you jusy want a cheap upgrade then a 7600gt might be a better choice. I don't think it would be too good ot COD4 but it still might be a good upgrade from what you have and i've seen them selling for ~£30 on auction sites.

Have a read of this http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/agp-platform-analysis-uk,review-2039.html :)

Oh and if you did decide to get a 7600gt, make sure it's the GT not the GS

I'm still on AGP & I play COD4/BF2/RFactor/RBR/Total wars etc etc etc using a 3500+, 2Gig of Ram & a 7800GS+
List your specs & we'll send you in the right direction. It's a matter of balancing your hardware rather than just slinging in the most powerful card you can buy.
