Currently using the rig in my sig, more or less.
Im trying to decide if its worth me upgrading from the rampage 3 extreme and i7 930 @ 4ghz to a x79 board, MSI big bang x power 2 or an evga ftw or something, and sticking in a i7 3930k and ocing it to whatever it achieves; under water.
The reason for this is 100% because of the time it takes me to render in sony vegas pro. 1600p video using dxtory and two audio streams. Generally takes around 1.5 times the length of the video to render it (30 mins takes 45 mins etc) and I would like it to be faster.
Can also upgrade the 480's to a pair of 4gb 680's but im not sure if that will help at all - usage graphs while rending with gpu/auto modes gives me 30-50% gpu usage (on one card) and 35-75% cpu usage. Thinking of holding of on the gpu front for a little while since nothing is giving me fps issues atm, except some cpu heavy games while recording.
tl;dr: Video rendering performance, i7 930 to i7 3930k, worth it, or wait for a bigger jump?
