Worth Upgrading

Afternoon,

My girlfirend and I have just purchased a flat and will need a pc each. I do have on older HP unit but it's not brill.

I'm debating whether to upgrade some bits on my pc and throw something together or buy a completely new one.

Would an upgrade from:
AMD 3500+
1 gig ram
Raptor
9800 pro

To an Operton based system really be worth it? I.E Replace the motherbaord, CPU and RAM and keep the rest?

Or shall I just buy a new pc? And give the Mrs my one.

EDIT: Its probably worth mentioning that I'm not a massive gaiming fan. A bit of CSS now and again.

What do you do with it other than the odd game? Fair few options about that could be considered a decent upgrade, even if you don't game

Any idea of a budget if you were going to build a new one?

well really if you game a better graphics card and then if you want a higher cpu in same board i go for

I do mostly development work and general browing, also dual boot my machine with linux. I also use VMWare a fair bit as well.

I've not got a particular budget in mind but would rather spend less. The opterons seem pretty cheap and I've heard good things about there speed etc.
