As work is so dead today i am going to try and spec me an upgrade for sometime in the new year. The machine will mainly be for gaming. I will have between £750-£1000 to spend. I'll be looking for a psu, mobo, cpu and graphics. It has been a long time since the last upgrade. My first question is, is it worth me upgrading at this time or is it worth waiting?

Ive always been an Amd guy but have read some good things lately and may go for intel. Are more people moving over to intel?

Worth waiting? There'll always be the next best thing or price cuts just around the corner. Me? I'm waiting until mid-Feb for an upgrade to pick up Vista at the same time.

For that kind of money and for gaming I wouldn't look at AMD. I'd base it around the E6600 CPU, 8800 GTS, Corsair HX 620W and an Intel 975 motherboard. Do you not need new RAM?

yeah oops. Ive got 1gb (2*256 and 1*512) ocz platinum and kingston pc4000... i think :o

i wasnt sure if there was anything going to be released early new year.

Ah - You'll really want to be looking at 2GB of DDR2, PC5300 or PC6400 if planning more serious overclocking.

yeah definately, i wasnt looking at anything less than 2gb. will probably do a little overclocking. my xp2500 is currently running at 2.2Ghz.
