Worth upgrading?

As thread title I have a sapphire x1950 pro 512mb which I've had for just over a year I've recently run into problems with it regarding overheating and got the go ahead to buy a new cooler for it from the missus a little while later I was shocked to her the words from her mouth "how much would a new card be?" :o

Now since I have a wedding to save for I didn't want to take the proverbial and came up with http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-078-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=416
To which she said "ok!" (I checked her temperature at this point fearing she may be unwell).

So anyhow is it a worthwhile upgrade or should I just go ahead and get a new cooler for my 1950 pro and hold off upgrading?

P.s she wasn't unwell and afaik aliens havn't abducted her and replaced her with a clone.

Thx in advance :)

i did link an 8800GT, the Leadtek one that OcUK stock

Yeah I saw mate, was just asking if theres a huge difference in performance between the 3870 and the 8800gt I've always prefered the ati route previously due to image quality and drivers but if theres a huge gap between the two cards I might be tempted :)

apparently it was something like 20% according to legionhardware... at a 20% higher price. though the price now is a lot more palatable. it'd still be worth sticking with ATi if you like them, though almost unquestionably, in a single card setting, the 8800GT will do you better...

what resolution are you at?

1280 x 960 mostly although max I can do is 2560 x 1600 on 22" crt

20% seems quite a fair bit for a little extra so I'm very tempted at this point.

can anyone comment on nvidia's drivers are they still as poor as they used to be I.E do they still fix 5 issues and create 15 new ones with each revision :P (its a long time since I used nvidia so maybe a harsh assesment but thats how it felt a few years back) also has image quality improved any?

Sorry for all the questions just it seems like I'm going to be stuck with my choice for quite a while and want to make sure I get it right :P
