Worth upgrading?

Currently have the following specs

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU Socket 939
Abit AT8 Motherboard
2x1 GB DDR PC3200 RAM Samsung
Nvidia 8500GT 512Mb PCIe Graphics card
Antec 500w PSU
2x500Gb Western Digital Hard Drives SATA2

Worth getting a Dual Core 939 CPU or should I upgrade to the AM2 platform instead?

Use the PC mainly for web browsing, office work and the odd 3D shoot em up game

Maybe it wont make that much of a difference but dual core helps multitasking by tons and makes it a lot smoother but you would need to get DDR2 setup for it.

E2160 <->E5200
cheap mobo
2GB good DDR2

that would boost you quite a lot comparing to your current setup, I wouldnt bother with just the CPU to be honest. Maybe a second hand 8800GT for about 40GBP now and you fly.

Get Itel instead, E8400 cpu, 4850 GFX, 2x2Gb 6400 mem. Keep the rest of your components.

I've been out of the upgrading scene for a while now but seems like Intel is a better option?
