My Current Build is :
amd fx 8350
980ti OC
256gb SSD
2TB HDD
16gb DDR3

I was just wondering, i play games like pubg csgo etc and am looking to upgrade my CPU, wondering how much a difference i could expect from that kind of upgrade and also if im better getting the i5 8600k or i7 8700k, as from what i have seen they're performance is similar in games, im also open to other CPU's if anybody has any better idea's, looking to spend no more than £600 for ram mobo and CPU ( Since it will all need replaced being old gen ). Just looking for some input to help me make a decision, anything is appreciated :)

Hi mate i upgreaded from a 8320 @4.6 to the Ryzen 1700. Is it better, yea it is, was it worth the 550- 600 better, tbh i'm not really sure.

If you can i would hold to see what happens in the 1st part of the new year and clock the **** out of your 8350. But if ya can not wait then yea it will be an upgrade, going from stock to 4.6 i saw a big jump in games on my 8320.

You would get a huge boost in performance going from your cpu to a i5 or i7 coffe lake cpu. You might actually be holding back your 980ti with the fx8350 so I would definitely upgrade.

You could sell your old parts as well once you do to soften the blow to your pocket.

I was going to save a bit by going the 8600k route but decided that I wanted to keep the cpu for a long time so the double amount of threads of the i7 was more appealing.

Your basket could look like......

I would think your see a massive uplift in performance upgrading.

I own a 8320 which I use as a workstation. It is OK as a cheap workstation but it isn't very powerful.

It's very well documented the FX series are not great at gaming due to poor IPC.

Ryzen fixes this issue.

I upgraded my gaming pc from a 3570k to a 1700 and the uplift is there.

Any of the new processors would be massive upgrade.

If your after something cheap the 8400 is great choice it is powerful enough for a 1080ti so would be plenty enough for your 980ti I got my motherboard/cpu/16gb ram for under £400.

If you want to spend a bit more there is the locked i7 8700 with its 4.6 turbo or the unlocked 8600 for around the same price both good options for games.

going from your cpu which is the weak part you would see a great performance jump.especially in pubg.ideally a intel cpu for that game.your gpu is still decent.

Excellent advice. Any of the modern processors would be a noticeable upgrade. Go with the best deal that you can get on the day you're ready to spend the money.

Okay thanks for the inputs guys i've come to the conclusion that im going to get the i5 and that will leave me enough money spare to get myself a h110 and hopefully push the CPU to 5Ghz+, i could get the i7 but i wouldn't have the cooling to overclock it so for the price i think the overclocked i5 will outperform the stock i7 in games considering they are neck and neck in gaming @5Ghz, of course there are some games that will take advantage of the extra threads of the i7 but for me i think the i5 will perform to a high enough standard to keep me happy in the titles where the 8700k may outshine it slightly with the extra threads. The money i save on the i7 is basically just for a h110.

Good plan. :D

I would go for the 8700k now as you can always upgrade the cooler at a later date when funds allow..

As you may have this cpu for years before you next upgrade..

As above. Get the best chip now. It will still do 4.5-4.6 with reasonable cooling. 6 threads extra is well worth the extra.
