I'm looking to upgrade my current computer which is going to be 5 years old next summer and hitting the upgrade cycle. Was wondering is it worth waiting until next year for the Haswell which are meant to use less energy but will also have more oomph which will be good for gaming plus new architecture, or are the current crop of IB worth getting and wont be much different to Haswell?

Cheers

Depends what you have at the moment... you can upgrade to 1155 socket for very little if you buy an i3.

I am glad I upgraded from a Q6600.

^ I have a Q6600 too, the rig is still perfect for me power wise but I want something that's smaller as the case is a bit big, and something quieter and more power efficient.

Is the i3 better than a Q6600? being a entry level cpu and all that.

Why would you post this in the SFF section?
A question like this is more suited to the CPU section mate.

If you want advice on a new SFF build fair enough, but it's not really clear.

Just realised I didn't mention anything about building a Gaming ITX oops. My thread was in relation to building a Mini ITX Gaming PC so was wondering if its worth waiting for Haswell or are the current crop of IB powerful and energy efficient enough.

As far as building an Ivybridge ITX rig goes, there's no speed difference to Atx.
Heat isnt an issue until you go north of 4.5ghz.
Seeing as most people run in the 4.4-4.5 ghz range, it's not hard to keep temps down at these speeds.

You can read reviews on just about any site out there, board size is not an issue, they perform exactly the same, as previously stated.

You build when you want to really, hanging around for "the next best thing" is personal choice.

What gfx card do you run? is the Q6600 bottlenecking it?
Are you happy with it's gaming performance?
This should determine your need / desire to upgrade.
