My current system is bit old with few minor upgrades over the years but it needs a complete over hull now

Rig: Asus A8N Premium (939), AMD x2 4200+, BFG 8800 GTS OC 640MB, 2GB DDR (2x1GB), Hiper 550w

I'm gonna say I've got a budget around £300-£400

Whats the best rig I can build now with that budget I would also like to get a decent sound card

Wouldn't quadcore be a better option? I also don't need a case as I will just reuse the old antec one I have will I need a new PSU?

Older Hiper's did no have a good rep around here. But keep if running fine.

How about...
  • AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.8GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £104.99
  • Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £98.25
  • XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 "XXX Edition" 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail £80.86
  • OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK) £44.99
  • Sub Total : £329.09
  • Shipping : £9.50
  • VAT : £50.79
  • Total : £389.38
Futureproof :)

Do you think upgrading to the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail which is only around £80 more than the tri-core would be a good option?

Thanks guys the power supply I've got the 580w Hiper Type-R in blue some reason I thought it was a 550w.

Also one more question because I can wait do you think it would be worth waiting around till the summer and save a bit of money?
