Worthwhile Upgrade From 2600K?

What would be a worthwhile upgrade from an i7 2600K (Oc'd to 4.5 Ghz)?

Whilst I enjoy having a fast snappy desktop PC, the main reason why I have an expensive PC is for gaming, and from reading various benchmarks and reviews, it doesn't seem that the i7 has come on much since Sandybridge....

....but I also know from past experience that sometimes reviews and posted benchmarks don't tell the whole story.

Upgrade itch is partially fuelled by the idea of letting my mother have my current base components, but then if I am going to spend about £800 on new PC components, then I am going to have to feel a tangible and noticeable benefit from the upgrade, other than knowing that all the components are brand new.

Anyone made a jump from Sandybridge? If so, was it worth the expense and hassle?

if you are gaming at 1080P and just game then your current processor is fine.

what are the rest of your PC specs? what GPU are you using?

Yep game at 1080p.

MSI Z68A GD80 mobo
2600K
8BG RAM
1TB Samsung Pro SSD
MSI GTX 980 Gaming Edition

Have no intentions of going above 1080p until 4K (the next 'standard), becomes just as widely supported and standardised as 108ßp is currently, and absolutely no intentions of ever going multi GPU.

TBH, I wouldn't bother. Maybe up the ram to 16GB, but otherwise its fine.
I see no compelling reason to upgrade from Sandy any time soon.

your current specs are more than fine for 1080P, would keep what you have and save your pennies for awhile longer :)

do you have a SSD? this can improve the running of the PC loads even if using on sata 2 ports like me

I have these installed:

I am guessing that something like these:

Will give me a significant performance boost?

i.e. 1600Mhz v 2400Mhz.

With that said, I do remember from overclocking an old rig, that I actually lowered the FSB of the RAM in order to acheive overall better, faster PC performance, so I am guessing that Bus Speed isn't everything, and of course, with every system there will be a point where having a faster FSB becomes pointless?
