Looking at about £50 for a GFX card and looking at current CPU prices probably around £100 for the CPU

Really want to avoid ATI as well, this card has given me nothing but trouble and it is my first ATI card, never had this kind of issue with Nvidia cards in the past.

what you use your system for? cos if its any sort of gaming youd be best swapping those budgets round, can get a new 260 for just over a ton then pick up an e5400, course thats assuming its gaming youre after, other option is to look on MM for 2nd hand

2nd hand is looking like prime option at the moment purely to get the best bang for buck.

Mobo is an ip-35e
4gb ram (4 x 1gb)
OS= Vista home premium 32bit

Main use is not gaming but as it stands I cant game because any kind of intensive graphics makes the screen go crazy, was a lot worse when i used to run dual monitors as it would switch them around and reset the resolutions in the middle of a game. (highly annoying) Small amounts of gaming tbh.

I have done a little hunting on this and it looks like a 2nd hand Q6600 looks to be the CPU I should get (any further suggestions on this ?)
GFX card wise I am just not sure what I should get for ~ £50 - £60 ??

Hunt that auction site and if ya lucky ya might find a Geforce 9800GT for not very much money at all ;)
i picked one up a few weeks back for less then 50 notes and it's a huge difference from a Radeon X1950 ;)

you could run a Q6600 on that board but im not sure how limiting the overclock will be .

Q6600 could be had for £70-80

4850-70 could be had for around £55 - 70

have a look around the mm and see what takes your fancy

ATI- arnt all that bad xD

no problems with my rig as of yet :P

Why would the overclocking be limited ?

Thanks

Definitely go for a Q6600 and try and get yourself a used 4870/4890 and don't be put off by the probs you currently have with ati as they're great cards and 2nd hand a bigger bang for your buck than Nvidia.

I got my Q6600 over a year ago for a steal £80 it runs stable and overclocks well my GPU I've changed several times always ending up with an ATI card at the moment I spent £65 about 5 months ago on a HD 4870 best card I've owned for stability and value...
