Worthwhile Upgrade? - 144Hz 1440p

Hello all,

I need some advice on a decision here. I have considered a full upgrade to my rig but decided it's not worth replacing everything just yet (not to mention the cost). So I was wondering about a monitor upgrade.

I'm thinking about the new Acer XB271HU (when it's released) but I have some concerns.

1. Is this monitor going to look much better than my 8 year old BenQ? This monitor is (only) normal HD but the quality is excellent all round. Have monitors moved on that much in 8 years? I have no idea...

2. I suspect I know the answer to this one, but is my current GPU capable of driving a 144Hz 1440p monitor with decent fps (30+)? Should I upgrade my GPU to a GTX908Ti? and if I do, are there any other bottlenecks in my system I should be aware of?

3. Are there any other panels I should be considering around that size? I don't like TN panels as I also use my monitor for photo editing. Should I wait for something else?

Any advice most welcome.

Just noticed the Asus pg279q. Looks like it ticks most of the boxes..

Only issues are the price and quality control. I noticed it's selling for $799 in the states (about £530 at current exchange rates). So it seems WAY overpriced in the UK.

Quite a few users in the states have complained about various panel quality issues as well.

Maybe the price will drop to something more sensible in the coming months.

Rip off Britain...
