Current Rig:
AMD Anthlon 3800+ (single core) @ 2.82ghz (zalman fan)
2gb Corsair RAM pc6400
250GB WD 7200, HD
HIS 1900XT (stock)
Asus MSNI32 Sli deluxe
Audigy 2
Tagan 580W Modular
Antec Lanboy
NEC DVD-RW
I use my pc for games(1440x900), video rendering, 3d modelling, video effects, photoshop, general web use.
Do you think this upgrade would be worthwile? I would give the components I don't need to my family, and help them build a new pc (badly needed) for them.
I would keep:
RAM
HD
GFX
Soundcard
*Possibly* case
PSU
DVD-RW
I would buy:
CP-135-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-135-IN) 1
£107.99 £107.99
MB-061-GI Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI) 1
£91.99 £91.99
HD-079-SE Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-079-SE) 1
£51.99 £51.99
Subtotal £251.97
VAT £44.10
Total £296.07
Would this seem very worthwhile? Undecided on the cpu fan, I know the arctic cooling pro 7 is popular, but at its max speeds is it quiet? That's a large priority as my computer is in a family room.
Would be hoping to get to 3ghz.
Any idea when the "next" gen amd chips are out? I'm willing to stay with am2 if it offers some upgrade (not x2's) within the next 12 months (preferably a LOT sooner)
Thank you
