Currently have 7850 2Gb ram, would a GTX 770 4Gb be a worthy upgrade?

I'd be looking to play GTA 5 @ 1080p but would it future proof me for 1440p?

Not really.

I'd be looking at a 970/980 as a worthy upgrade if you're considering a 1440p monitor, the 770 is a generation old and on par with a GTX680 or AMD 7970.

Ah fair enough, I ask because there's one in B grade for £150 and thought it would be a good upgrade. Almost clicked buy so thanks for that ReaperGuy....

Should I just OC my 7850 and save up some pennies for a 970 then if prices drop following the 980ti release?

970 isn't ideal for 1440 as well with its 3.5GB vram. At that price point, you'd probably be better looking at the R9 390 8GB.

Depending on which 7850 you have you might be able to push some sick OC on it, I remember you could OC them close to a 7950 which should give you >30fps @ 1080p with good visual settings.

But yeah, going to 1440p you're looking at spending >£400 to keep good image quality & smooth gameplay while for 1080p a 970 is usually good enough.

Ok, think I'll wait till around Christmas/January time to see if prices reduce and then treat myself.

Poneros, I have the Gigabyte Windforce 7850 2Gb. Any good?
