Hi all,

Quick question, is it worth upgrading from an Athlon 64 3200 venice @ stock to a C2D E2180 (all I can afford literally). What sort of performance increase would I get.

Thanks!

My friend went from an A64 3700+ san diego overclocked to 2.6ghz to an E2160 which overclocked to 3.2GHz, the difference was simply night and day. all his apps ran smoother and games played better.

Well worth it if you need that extra processing power and dont want to spend to much.

3400+ Venice at stock to an E2160 at 3ghz... Really, really worthwhile upgrade.

get 2gb of ram and vista, and a P35 mobo if you can, though, as that will make it even sweeter

I went from an X2 3800+ to an E6600 and I noticed a big difference between the 2. As you're going from a single core AMD to a dual Intel, you'd notice an even bigger difference.

It's worth it. Intel are 400Mhz faster roughly than AMD at the same clock. So the E6600 at 2.4Ghz is as fast as an AMD dual core at 2.8Ghz. My last CPU was the X2 3800+ @ 2.8Ghz and this CPU at 2.4Ghz equals my old power. At 3.2Ghz it's the equivalent of a 3.6Ghz AMD CPU :).

Not bad at all and I can push up to 3.5Ghz if needed.

Go for it!.

I was groomed by the AMD mob at work and nearly went for a 5600 duel set up,but after looking at the 6600 overclocking thread i was sold and bought a quad instead coming from a Intel Celeron 2600 originally it was a nice upgrade :p

went from that chip to q6600 and normal browsing is much the same, but running several programs i experience no slowdown...and thst, firefox x 20 tabs, 40d, iplayer, veoh player, bittorrent, wmp and it is like i have just formatted on a clean hdd.

Went from a Venice 3000+ to an E4300 (similar level to the 2180, I think). Even at stock 1.8, it feels so much more responsive, and overclocked to 2.66... tis very nice :)
