I know intel is better but cant afford to get get new cpu/mobo and gpu

im only doing light gaming hon/dota 2 etc but will be playing borderlands 2.

Would this any good? cheers

If you've not already, Overclock you 955, this will add a few extra FPS.

The upgrade to bulldozer won't do you as much good as you'd hope.

I'd save until you can afford Ivybridge, or build a rig.

Cheers guys, well i did try and oc but my pc went a bit crazy random shut downs, used cpu-z saying core was running at 800mhz etc seemed really unstable,

Now thinking about just upgrading cpu and mobo waiting a month or 2 for new gpu as amd have just lowered the prices for their cards hoping OC prices might fall by then

The 5870 isn't a bad GPU at all. It's actually better than the 6870.....confusing I know. The reason your CPU shows 800mhz is because of cool and quiet. This lets the CPU idle at a lower speed (saves power and less heat), then can up the clock speed when you need it most ;)

What do you use the rig for? Gaming sounded light. COnsidering how much better the i5K is and that quicksync makes a massive difference to video encoding, a mobo bundle upgrade might actually make more sense. Keep in mind the Z77 mobos lucidMVP software can boost your "old" GPU with the Intel IGP on the CPU :D

I would buy an i5 3570k and an Z77 motherboard first, then sell the 5870 and buy a new graphics card after. May as well upgrade properly, there's no point in using a Bulldozer CPU when you already use a Phenom II.

ok so I've decided getting cpu mobo, new heatsink not a fan of my freezer pro

So is this good as a base?

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £169.99
(£141.66) £169.99
(£141.66)
Gigabyte Z77M-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £86.99

(£72.49)
Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket LGA2011/1366/1155/1156/775/ AMD AM3/AM3+/AM2/AM2+/FM1)

Currenlty have:

Kingston Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G) but 12gb im guessing this will be fine the other mobo?

YOUR BASKET

dont get the -m mobo, it has no virtu mvp. if you really want a matx mobo, then get the -mx
8gb is fine. specced as such (idk what ram you have)
hyper612s is a good heatsink
