I haven't used Hotmail for years but I have had a couple of calls from users who say that for the past few days Hotmail seems to have become very unreliable - in particular it seems to fail to "Send" emails. This may be associated with some Silverlight update.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

It’s crap, I logged into my old one a while back to retrieve an old password and couldn’t believe how bad it’s become.

A bit more background, both users are using the latest version of Firefox Quantum with NoScript and AdBlockPlus and the relevant Hotmail warnings appear to be:
"The original message can't be shown at the moment. It will be included when the message is sent."
and
"The message can't be sent at the moment. Please try again later."

I just use a mail client to access live.com and hotmail accounts. No issues here.
Any chance you can elaborate on this? As I said, I no longer use Hotmail and I have never accessed it (or Gmail or Yahoo) in the way you describe. What email client do you use?

Incidentally many thanks to whoever moved this to the correct sub-forum, much appreciated :)

Some days it works perfectly, some days it's broken. I also occasionally get the same messages as you, but I've never figured out what's going on. From Outlook it seems to be working just fine, though.

Sure

Outlook on my Android phone
Mail on windows 10

Just use the + Add account option in both, and add in the account details.

Takes 2 mins :D

I still use my my [email protected] account as my main personal email account which I signed up for the day hotmail.CO.UK went live (probably about year 2000) and haven't had any problems at all. Works web based and syncs fine to my installed Outlook 2013 when I choose.

I don't know if your logging into some old site but for me the experience is just like the @outlook.com interface with Office 365 style Onedrive, Word, Calendar apps etc. and miles better than gmails interface which I personally think is a bit of a mess.

Same

The GDPR cookie / Ad notice on Outlook has started pestering me since yesterday, unless you opt in it will come up every time you login and if you close it you have automatically consented.

No issues here. FF 66.0.1, uBlock Origin, Nano Defender, Decentraleyes and Privacy Badger are enabled for the site. Try disabling NoScript and/or uBlock and see if maybe that helps?

Does any of that automatically opt out of gdpr notices for you?

As in turn off personalised ads not just close the pop up as that usually automatically opts you in.

Still happening intermittently . . . and I have been playing with outlook.live.com for the past day or two. I have a feeling that it may have something to do with changes that Microsoft have made to it in connection with advertising?

EDITED: Out of curiosity I have also been having a look at (review) of Yahoo and Gmail; they also seem to have moved on but they appear to work more reliably than Hotmail/Outlook - "monetisation" I guess. I also note that they all seem to require a (valid) mobile 'phone number these days - presumably to be sold on :(

Yeah you can guarantee there's $$$ involved with advertising and selling off your bits! Half these on net are like Crack/smak heads desperate for a Hit! mind bet would sell there mothers also!
Getting the cookie notice all the time what a way to pee users off so go elsewhere.
Thinking of going over to .de trying to remember email service said to try over there?

I don't think I have visited the hotmail.com/live.com/outlook.com pages for years. I am just curious, why are you guys accessing it that way?
Personally I haven't used Hotmail for ages so no real answer. However, the people to whom I provide support typically feel familiar with and still (very happily) use Windows 7 and Firefox.

As I have suggested, I suspect that the "issues" relate to ongoing "enhancement" by Microsoft who seem to operate on the basis of "If it works - FIX IT!" ;)

As to Android, I don't offer support on Smartphones . . . or iPhones either.

I still use Hotmail as my main email address as I'm not a goon who drops things for no good reason. Still works in my Outlook fine all the time, and on the odd occasion I use my web login.
