Hi guys. I bought a 10 litre Wotancraft Pilot camera bag in khaki colour a couple of years ago which has had a lot of use. It's still in perfect condition, nothing torn or broken, however it's really looking grubby with lots of darker dirt areas and a few stains. It really needs washing. The fabric is Cordura and I know that Wotancraft coat it with wax to help make it weatherproof. I'm just wondering if I could get away with putting it inside a pillow case and into the washing machine?

I would treat it like any other wax canvas bag or jacket. First port of call is email Wotoncraft to see what they say, if they don’t reply then Google how to clean a Barbour waxed bag.
I emailed Wotancraft a year ago about some stains (and that was when the whole bag was generally a lot cleaner than now) and they replied, "Regarding the stains, have you tried using a slightly damp cloth to try and rub them off? We won't recommend using any kind of solvents as they might damage the water repellent coating.

Let us know if it works!

Kindest,
WOTANCRAFT"

I've been watching some YouTube videos and found one on Cordura fabric where washing with no detergent is fine as apparently detergent can damage the waterproof coating. So I think I'll try a cold wash, no detergent and low or no spin cycle. I'll also Google cleaning a Barbour waxed bag. But honestly, this is grubby like a tramp's underpants that I think only a machine wash would be able to tackle.

Edit: actually what I'll try first is washing just the small clip on front zipper pouch. That's grubby but if it cleans up well I can then put the whole bag in the washing machine.

Sounds like the sales/CS guy isn’t glued up on their own product.

I know Barbour can take your old bag or jacket in and clean and rewax it for a fee, so there is an industry out there doing this kind of stuff. I go would down that route, if you want it come out like new.
Thanks Raymond. I found the Barbour website for repairs, cleaning and re waxing, but it says for Barbour waxed jackets only so not sure if they'll take a Wotancraft bag? I'm also wondeing if the cost of cleaning and rewaxing would be close to the price of buying a new bag.

Googled turned up another place, it says jacket but not specific to Barbour stuff. Email them to see if they do bags?

I have a wax canvas Barbour bag that could do with a clean but I just can’t be bothered lol.

That's a good find and prices very reasonable. Ok, I'll email them and see what they say. Thanks.
