Hi I hope this is the right forum? I'm saving up for a new TV and i would like to know what this model is like?

I have looked at Currys PC world and they are selling it at £499, they also charge £45 delivery and set up.

I've also looked at Richer Sounds who charge £419 for a LG 43UM7500PLA but have now been told they won't set it up for me.

So I am now looking at John Lewis to see what they got as they do a 5yr warrenty. With Currys/PC World I would have to pay £2 a month to know how with Currys PC World.

can you tell me where i would get the better deal please? PC World, or John Lewis?

Sorry to ask. And also if LG are very good? I did consider the Sony Bravia as my parents have one, but apparently LG make the same 4K screens for Sony?

I'm a bit surprised that no one has jumped in on this. Anyway, here goes...

Currys' set-up service isn't all that much to write home about. It amounts to unpacking, building the stand, plugging in some cables and then pressing Autotune. IDK if they get rid of the box, but TBH, you probably don't want them to do that as in the unlikely event of an issue with any new TV in the first few weeks of ownership it's handy to have the box in case a return is required. Unless you have some physical disability or infirmity then there's not really that much with the service that you couldn't do yourself, albeit it might take a little longer.

Richer's price on the TV (if it is £419) is excellent. There was an Amazon TV sale at the beginning of this month and that set was at £419, but the offer finished on Sept 3rd. If you can still get that price from Richers then along with their warranty offer it's a very good deal.

Regarding Sony using LG panels, the brand certainly uses the same type of LCD panel (IPS), and they may well use IPS-type panels sourced from LG as well as other suppliers. That doesn't make LG and Sony the same though. If anything, Sony spends more on its backlight technology so the illumination is possibly brighter but definitely more even. I think their picture processing has some advantages over LG too.

As a standalone set around the £500 mark the LG is decent. The brand tries to offer more in the way of features (e.g. a Freesat tuner as well as the regular Freeview one) and that does mean that they're making some small savings elsewhere. The IPS panel gives a wider viewing angle without colour change than the competing tech known as VA, so if you or someone viewing with you sits off to one side then they'll still get a good image.

Thanks for your reply. I have had another look at PC/Curry's. I'm with Knowhow with my laptop and Humax box, I would most likely put my new TV on Know-how (which is £2 per month) I'm drawn towards the LG.

What are people's opinion on Knowhow please?
