Would 2X2GB DDR2, make that much difference from 4x1GB DDR2?

I have 2x1GB DDR2 Corsair value at 533mhz, I am wanting to upgrade my ram.
Getting 4 sticks of 1gb DDR2 quality ram is much cheaper than getting 2x2gb I think. How would performance compare, if I it was faster than my current configuration then I may go ahead with it as OcUK have a great deal on these:

The 800mhz rating should surely help, I use my PC primarily for gaming and audio processing/recording etc so extra RAM is always helpful as I can often have a large number of programs running simultaneously.

MY other specs:

E6400 Core 2 @ stock
2x1GB DDR2 corsair value 533mhz
Geforce 8800gts 640mb
Abit Fatality mobo

I was gonna sell my current 2GB 6400 (4x512mb) sticks and just buy 2x2gb sticks...Are you saying I would be better buying 4x 1gb sticks?

Sime, I had a 2x2GB (4GB) kit, it was Corsair Dominator and still is not on their site.

It clocked like 20-30mhz at most and at stock could not run 1T, I got rid of it and hoped to wait on 4GB kits to mature as when new all big Modules are not that hot same when 512MB became 1GB.

BUT there is 2 very good 4GB kits that OC like hell.

http://www.mushkin.com/ Top of page, they 2 Kits are fastest 4GB kit today.

If you are intending to run the FSB higher than 420mhz then choose 4x1gb PC6400.

If not, and you have the extra money, then 2x2gb PC6400would be fine.

I would remove the link, dude :)

And yeah the Mushkin is uber-expensive as it's uber-rare, especially in the UK.

It's meant to be very good, but you could get two 2x2gb PC6400 kits for that kinda money.

i believe there is quite a large % of performance loose in 4x1 over 2x2 also, no 4x1GB are not as good for overclocking, OcUK them selves down clock their own pre-builts with 4x1.

Note - If you select the 4GB Memory Upgrade option then the CPU overclock is reduced to 3.2GHz - 3.3GHz region to maintain stability with all four memory banks filled.

is like 512MB x 4 is awful compared to 2 x 1, cos its having to access memory in 4 slots it takes longer then it does to access just 2.

Actually if you're using the Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi nForce 650 then you will have problems running four 1gb sticks of PC6400. I'm pretty sure the nVidia 650i chipset has issues running four 1gb sticks over PC5300 speeds. PC6400 will work, but it will be slowed down to roughly PC5300 speeds with 4 sticks.

I've not seen any results with two 2gb sticks so I don't know if it's a four stick issue or a 4gb issue.

they should be very good for overclocking my old OCZ and that was the value stuff. but imo i would pay a few quid more and get the 2 x 2GB G.Skill lower volts, better timings and meant to be even better for overclocking. a mate of mine has just bought some so just waiting to see how they turn out myself :D

Yes and FFS do not buy the current Corsair 4GB kits, I did. :(
They dont overclock at all, not even a little bit.
I think I have shot myself in the foot to get a performence increase.
Was running at 7*450 very stable with the overhead for more using 2*1gig sticks OCZ special Ops 6400 stuff.
I wanted 4 gig so bought another 2 gig of OCZ closest match I could get and my DS4 hated it, really corrupted windows so now have the Corsair kit and have to run at 7*400 so down to 2.8ghz, so I dont think I have gained, so it has cost me money I have sold 2 gig of better ram to cover my cost and I am 350mhz down.
Such is life.

4x1gb Ballistix will clock easily. I've got them upwards of 1150mhz stable @ 5-5-5-15 (2.3v). Have done 1200mhz with the timings @ 6-6-6-18 but I slowed them down. Will quite happily run at 1000mhz 4-4-4-12 as well.

Cant recommend the Ballistix enough matey. Has to be the best value ram out there. I got 4gb of PC6400 brand new for just short of £90 delivered.

Not seen any performance loss what-so-ever. Just seen my programs running loads faster (Maya, Photoshop CS3 & Sony Vegas). Have'nt got a clue why anyone has any problems at with 4x1gb. I just stuck mine in and comp booted straight away.

Dunno how the your A-bit will react but the MSI in sig just chews it up and asks for more.
