Just a quick question before I hit the buy button..

Would a Q6600 at stock be a bottleneck for a 260 GTX ? It'd be running at a res of 1680x1050.
I've had a look about and most places seem to say bottlenecks only come into play at low res, is this true?
I know it's kinda a stupid question but would like to know before I buy.

Appreciate any info.

You'll get a small, but not insignificant boost in many games by clocking the Q6600 to 3gig - once you hit ~3gig you will see little gain from going higher in most games tho there are some exceptions like HL2 engine games which will eat all the CPU you can throw at them.

True, but it will only matter if you care about mega high fps.

A modest low-mid range Core 2 Duo, should easily give you over 60 fps in pretty much any Source engine game.

Would it be worth waiting until January to see if the launch of the GTX 295 & 285 have an affect on the price of the 260 ?

Would it be worth waiting to see how much more the pound falls, as that will sure have an impact :-)

Always what ifs mate, if you want something, then just get it IMO :-)

You can end up waiting forever.

They might have an effect on the price but u'll lose the whole xmas period worth of gaming time waiting for that to happen and imo that time is worth more than the potential price drop.

No.

Please don't listen to those advising you to wait, they'll have you waiting forever, just buy your new card, and have fun, the GTX260 will lay waste to games at that res for a long time to come.
