would this be done by the console? and if so will it do it to his other games?

Yep your 360 did that. It's a console fault, return it and the game. My newphews did the same thing after a period of use and the game store he got it from replaced two of his games and the console.

In the days of PS2 having it upright caused scratches ... have not even tried putting it upright with my 360... however I have heard quite a few stories about the 360 scratching up the discs even when horizontal

BAD 360:mad:

oh well at least MS acknowledge it :)

There's a YouTube video of it around, when you tilt the console, the disc's aren't "locked" into it's proper position, and then rubs of part of the CD tray, causing those lines.

Happened to one of my games where I knocked it by accident (think it was Crackdown), took it back to the place where I bought it and said it was scratched, luckily the assistant didn't know of this problem and swapped it there and then.

Just to mention as well, if you can't get the game replaced, you can buy Forza 2 brand new for £12, so it's not worth the hassle with the replacement game from MS.

It would be more the principle though, MS **** up your game and then your forced to spend more of your money buying another?? I'd go through the returns department and be an absolute hassle to them!

They charge you 20$ for a replacement disc which is well out of order for a console fault.

Which is why i took it back to the shop and got it swapped there!

My brother had this happen recently but thats because he moved the console whilst it was on. Does this happen even when the 360 isn't knocked/moved?

No, only happens when the 360 is knocked / moved.

One of my posts above explains exactly how it happens, and only occurs when the concole is tilted whilst in operation.

Some DVD drives damage disks even when the console isn't moved. I was under the impression that was a known fact? But some posts in here seem to support the opposite.
