Would a 55" look silly here (opinions)

Just wondering if I could get a few opinions from you fine people.

I'm looking to upgrade my 8 year old 40", it sits in a recess between the chimney and window and I'd worked out that the maximum I could go to in that space would be 49", that will just about fit.

I really fancied an OLED but a 55" just won't fit in the gap. But now I'm thinking I could maybe move it forward and have it stretching across the front of the gap. However I'm not sure if this would look okay or really stupid, and just too big. What do you all think. Below is a plan showing how the 49" would fit on the left and the 55" on the right. I've also included a picture of how it currently looks with the 40"

Can you not angle it so part looks like it retails position in the recessed area, just juts more into the free area?
If it has to sit in front of both it will look silly.

Hmm maybe, I guess I could have it just jutting out one side. Though I'm not sure if it could sit central on the stand, so that might also look odd. Maybe this just isn't a good idea.

Make a cupboard above and draws underneath and make the TV flush to a false wall? Or on an arm so you can pull it out?

Thanks for the suggestions, though not sure I want to add more to the task, I'm not much of a DIY person.

Looking at it again with a tape measure I think I could have it so it comes up to the wall on the right and then just overlaps the chimney breast on the left. However I think it would probably ruin the look of the chimney breast, I'm probably best off sticking with 49".

LOL, thanks for the suggestions guys. I noticed somebody down the road has one over the fireplace but I'm not a big fan of wall mounting and I think as V F says it would be a strain on the neck.

I think the best I could manage in the current space is something like this:

I think it would look ok, we have a TV in the same position in the living room although its only a 47" I believe, but it looks ok so I doubt 55" will look out of place, and our 47" TV has a thick bezel. Most new TVs have ultra slim bezels.

*Nice PS3, always loved the original design on that.

Yeah probably a similar size without the thicker bezels.

Hah yeah, I guess that PS3 is a bit of a classic now, only really use it for Blu-ray.

Cheers everyone, I'll keep mulling over what I want to get, but I think it probably would look okay.

If anyone is interested I went for the 55" OLED in the end. I thought I'd actually fully made up my mind to get a 49", but then the LG B7 went down to £1200 and I just couldn't resist at that price, so I got the old tape measure out one more time and went for it!

I actually think it looks okay:

Thanks guys. LOL definitely just the camera making it look odd and not curved. Its actually hard to get a photo showing exactly how it looks but the stand doesn't really protrude out that far, only had to pull it out a little further than it was before. I can't really be bothered with wall mounting, the hassle of hiding the cables and not sure how long I plan to stay in this house, plus I wouldn't want it that high.

Loving the TV though, upgraded my Netflix account and checked out a few things, just stunning!
