Hey all,

my x800xl is about to give up! i was thinking of getting a 8800GTS as i play games at 1920*1200 mainly only Source games tho. Was wondering would the 8800GTS be bottlenecked by my system as its only a AMD64 3500+, 2gig ddr 3200.

Also wonder about the lowerrend directx10 cards from ATI the r600 range, when are they going to be released.

Cheers!

A single core S939 chip would hamper your 8800 a bit, yus, but not to the point where you wouldn't see a huge advantage over an X800XL running 1920*1200.

The 8800 GTS is a top end card at the moment, so no matter what CPU/Memory you use, or how much of a bottleneck you have, most games are predominantly GPU-dependant anyway and therefore you will still be getting great performance.

It would bottleneck it yes, ATi's mid-range R600 cards are getting released on the 23rd-24th this month along withe the top ends, they are releasing the whole lot in one go so best of waiting as its only a couple of weeks away now. :)

I've got an 8800GTS running on a similar system, at 1680x1050.
In 1920x1200 I think you will see a huge benefit from a x800xl. CPU bottlenecking is fairly easy to resolve, just crank up the 3d settings so you are running 16xQ AA etc.
