Would a change of router help?

i am on a BT line and my ISP is tiscali
i have a thomson TG585 v7 router, but i am getting really rubbish speeds.

tiscali have said the usual things like i should get upto 8mb but i am getting from 1mb to 2mb

i was thinking of buying either the Belkin F5D8631UK4A, or the Netgear DGN2000, or am i wasting my money.

is it all down to settings or something

Your line stats would indicate your connection is fine.

It's Tiscali being bloody awful. Move to O2, Be or another good ISP.

I would also suggest moving to another company Tiscali are awful and in trouble.

I would suggest looking at o2/be or even Sky.

i cant get 02 here where i live, and i have only just entered a 12 month contract with tiscali (10 months to go) i know my router says it has a down speed of 4.384 but i am getting nowhere near that, do you think it might be the router settings, someone mentioned about altering the MTU size also, but i dont know how to do it

No, the problem is most likely Tiscali. MTU tweaking is largely pointless these days, except for a few weird ISPs (CPWH/AOL use 1400 bytes).

so i will have to hound tiscali to try and get them to give me more power... lol
so a change to a better router would not help?

For the third time, no.

The margain for SNR on ADSL provided by BT is 6Db, yours reside at 18.0 and 9.5, which is totally fine.

The problem is all Tiscali.
