Would a monitor upgrade be worthwhile for me?

I purchased my current monitor, a Samsung S23A700D in April 2012 for approx £150 from OCUK.

Its an early 120hz monitor, made for 3d. its 1080p, and was a decent enough TN panel for the time from what I can recall.

That was my part of my last "start from scratch" build. Since then everything else has changed lol.

Currently I'm running the following

i7 4790k @ 4.7GHz
980ti @ 1470/2000
16gb DDR3 @ 2400

Everything is kinda at a dead end with this build now. the motherboard has the best CPU in it (within reason), the DDR3 cant be moved on to anything newer, even the monitor is kinda screwed with new GPUs as it only does 120hz over DVI-d, and newer cards look to be dropping DVI

My thoughts were to drag this system out as long as I can. I'm sure I can get at least 2 years out of it without too much trouble. TBH, with the way things are progressing atm, I wouldn't be surprised if I was getting along just fine in 4 years.

Then, I thought maybe I could upgrade the monitor? Take it over to the new build in a few years time? I looked at whats available, and honestly, I was surprised how few good options seam to be available? Could I even get a solid upgrade for the £150 I put down 6 and a bit years ago today?

I could probably be persuaded to part with up to £400, if I really felt like it was worth it, but is it? I get the feeling its going to be an anticlimax if I do... 1440p, g-sync... Not sure if its enough...

What should I do OCUK? Get a shiny new monitor? Or stick the money in the pot and get one as part of a big upgrade in a few years time?

Do we think things are going to change much in the next 2 - 4 years? OLED? 4k standard among enthusiasts? HDR gonna be big?
