I'm planning on building a new PC when the RTX 5070 releases next month. In my previous gaming PC builds I've normally just gone for a midrange Ryzen5/Intel i5 CPU paired with a mid-high end GPU. I'm not aiming for super-high framerates and most games are normally geared towards single core performance rather than being able to utilise loads of cores/threads in high end CPUs anyway.
Is that still a reasonable strategy or are there modern games/genres where it's worth paying more for a high-end CPU to game on?
