Would a scratch on the heatspreader of a CPU affect it?

Hi, considering buying a 2nd processor (since i'm a cheapskate) and i found one however the actual chip has a scratch on the heatspreader. Obviously it isn't a very deep scratch but it is pretty noticeable... just wanted to know if it will actually affect the processor in anyway?

If its not very deep it shouldnt effect it much, if at all, as the paste may cover it fine, if you think it may be a bit to deep you could try lapping it out, this also has the added benefit of decreasing temps and evening contact of the heatsink.

EDIT: a q6600 under £30.00, snap it up asap.

Long story short my CPU has some dints in, Probably some dodgy thermal paste.

And i havn't noticed any temps differences etc, and correct me if im wrong this outside edgeing is just for protection and heat transfering right?

Yeah, it might actually decrease temperature, since in theory there would be a bigger surface area over which to dissipate the heat :p
