im looking to upgrade my pc i did intend on buyin a pc on the 25th of last month but my bike engine blew so that got priority.

my current spec

amd sempron64 3100 sct754 (oc 2.17ghz)
gigabyte k8ns pro
kingston value 1.5gb 400mhz ddr
gforce 6600le
soundbaster fatiality extreme gamer
2x 80gb sataI wd 8m cache (raid0 atm)
corsair 620w (just got this as start of upgrade
2x 520gb sataII WD 16mb cache (will raid0 these for new system) (also just got for upgrade)
Antec ninehundred case (just got for upgrade)
DVD RW lg 18x (just got for upgrade as its black)
IDE 80gb WD 7200 (use as safe storage for important things)

what i want to end up with is

c2d e6600
2gb corsair dominator
8800gtx oc 768 (maybe sli later)
bfg 680i
dvdrw from above
hhd's from above (will i be able to set up 2 sata0 arrays?)

the asrock for the stepping stone will be
Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA Socket 775 Motherboard
i will change this as soon as i have all the other components

The ASRock would allow you to upgrade in stages, I wouldn't Raid your hard drives with it though as the chances of it using the same Raid controller as the BFG 680 based motherboard are slim to say the least. You probably won't be able to overclock much and it depends on how big chunks you want to upgrade in but for a gradual upgrade it is probably the best option provided you accept its limitations. :)

well i can spend £450 at the end of this month and that wont get me the motherboard processor ram and gpx so it seemed a good way to do it.
anything to get rid of game lagg and i want to see fear on full

and is there a way to run 2 sata0 arrays?

Word of warning asrock do not guarantee the e4300 to boot on the 4 core vsta
board it has a bios update to make it work on that board.I emailed them and they said they cannot say whether it will boot on the 1.0 bios.
was about to do the same myself but got scared by this the 6300+ is fine though.

any problems with the e6600 tho?

im sat here debating weather to just save now but its doing my head in i cant even play the new ghost recon on low settings

and i got 660 to spend this month but really want the dominator ram so if i could afford everything but the pci express graphics card.. kinda gutted

BFG nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £176.24

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £204.44

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) £173.89

Sub Total : £471.97
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £8.25
Vat : £84.04

would it be worth buying a lower end graphics card and just ebaying it when i can afford a good one this way the other dx10 cards could be out?

buy anything else aprt from corsair, apparently team xtreem is the best - look in the memory part of the forum there is a few people who have asked this question and have gotten very good answers

HAD THAT ASROCK BOARD....HORRIBLE!!! manual and everything really low quality, especially comparing it to my ds4 :P

I had an Asrock K7VT4A PRO and couldn't get the SATA drivers to work, so couldn't even install windows on it, assumed the mobo was dead so returned it to the supplier. They sent a replacement and the same thing happened again, so gave up and got a Gigabyte which worked perfectly straight away. Asrock never again!

i almost bought one !
glad i did'nt now i think the best way is just to save until
you can afford a big upgrade and watch all the prices falling
whilst your saving also the ds3 seems the only solid board at the mo and even that isnt being told the truth about the nb requiring an 80 mm fan pointed
at it to clock a duo to 3.4ghz abit quad gt and asus commando seem the ones
to get and by the time can afford they will be sub £100 so it's all good.

Yeh run 5 of them if you want.

I run 2 on the dual-vsta : 1 raid is for windows the other is for linux.

The thing about the dual-vsta is that since I primaroly use it for my linux desktop it has become a permanent feature and not the stepping stone that I was going to use it for. I just ended up buying and building new c2d machines for windows as I tend to run the 2 operating systems in parallel.
