would an FX 6 core run too hot in a slim case?

took delivery of this case(not from here) yesterday as replacement for my current one, im not bothered about the low profile format, chose it for a reason.. so i am looking for parts to put in it and still with the budget idea.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £37.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

i have seen a cheap m-atx board that cost less than this case's base price and also seen a fx 6300 for the same price as this case with the shipping, doesnt have a cooler which is fine, but i know AMD processors of such to run hot by nature, so i am wondering if it be wise for this case?

Can i ask why FX?

FX series CPU's are obsolete, really they are a terrible idea now with Ryzen, a 2200G will demolish it and they are very power efficient.

The only way you would go FX is if you already have DDR3 and an AM3 Board and FX series is all the money you are willing to spend.
So to answer your question the 6300 will be fine in that case so long as you don't overclock it.

thanks for reply.

well i mentioned FX because of finding a 6 core, im not gaming, so i dont care if it has slow cores and have seen the 4000 models for not much less and are quads, that and trying to find a decent APU.. for the price of that FX, i could potentially buy a A6 5400k with m-atx board and ram for like £25-30, but thats a dual core, i would want an quad really. i figured the FX line was better and stronger than the APU line offering 6 & 8 core options?

ddr3 memory is cheap and i would be keeping the 8gb kit i already have and just replace that with a single 4gb or 8gb for the sale, i see no reason to sell a good 8gb kit in a low powered APU when it would benefit me still, same goes with a ddr3 intel build.. i could buy a skylake/kabylake supported 110m board along with a skylake G4400 for around £60, but used ddr4 ram is expensive.. the amd board ive seen is £15 and is an Asrock 960GC-GS FX.

i got this case to be able to fit M-atx as they cheaper and more popular and it is suitable for my desk still, so really i am looking to spend £75(prior to current pc sale) either on the main bits and sort a gpu afterwards or include a gpu also which is why im looking at older tech still, im re-using my 300w psu and drives, so i have more for the main hardware.

ive seen a ryzen 3 1200 or 1300x with an a320m K prime board for £130 which i was tempted by, but its the ddr4 ram that puts me off even for a 2200g aside from the bios issues for that one.

okay thats good to know the 6300 would be fine, with a 300w there certainly be no overclocking lol, but im not set on amd, its just what im finding more of.

Probably. But as already asked why?

as above ha, i am upgrading my computer on a budget as im not gaming and AMD processors/motherboards seem to be more easier to find than intel, mean i can get an i5 2400/2500 for less than that FX which i know is a better chip, but its finding a board, i am trying to re-use my 8gb kit to keep costs down and while i can find decent priced 1150 boards, its the processors worth having im struggling with, i am willing to get a dual core from a skylake if it means a step forward and for the price demand of skylake/kabylake, but not in an 1150 even for another i3 4160 which is about the cost of the FX, i want 4 or 6 proper cores.

but i am basically trying to find a combo for around £75-80.

Maybe look for a dell t1600/ HPZ300 with a sandybridge Xeon and strip the guts from it. Something like that will murder the FX6.

im not worried about something that would murder something like the FX, its still better than my current APU which is the aim ha, but i did have the same line of thinking, not the Xenon idea, but finding a computer i could strip down, but while i dont particularly want a branded board from Dell etc, arent the dell boards limited to their own case design?

The older stuff and proper enterprise level kit is. The systems like the T1600 are just ATX. Since the uncovering of the Intel security vunrability firms are virtually throwing Intel systems away.

ah right i see.. an atx wont work in that case, suppose could see if they have M-atx models, wouldnt say no to a decent xps if it was optional.

think ive found a good solution to this for an alternative to an FX.

from one person on FB, i have seen these

G3220
asus h81m-k
4gb 1600

£45

zoostorm tower
Phenom 6 core
Asrock N68c-s ucc
4gb ram
500gb hdd
8600gt

£75

i5 3330
ga-h61m of some kind
4gb ram
500gb hdd

£75

im sort of leaning to the haswell as its haswell and a bundle and all i need, but would either of the other 2 be good compared to the FX idea or any APU?

If it's any help to you OP I have a FX8350 (8 core), M5A99X EVO r2 mobo, 120mm AIO, case (and 16GB DDR3 if required) in the loft I can put in MM for a silly price? Saves them gathering dust until I throw them away. I reused the PSU in my new build but other than that you can have at it if you wish.

If op doesn't want it , Id definitely take it off your hands for the community centre I run.

Depending on price if that goes up in members market I'd also be interested
