Ive just sent back a HP Omen i7 8750 GTX1060 laptop because of overheating and fan noise, i can get my hands on a new Dell G7 17" with a i5 8300h and the new RTX2060 gpu for £1169 with a discount, would this still be a noisy laptop when it comes to cooling down and do yo think the CPU would hold back the GPU? it would mostly be used for gaming.

Dell G7 17 Gaming Laptop
NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX2060
8th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 8300H Processor (Quad-Core, 8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
Windows 10 Home 64bit
17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS 300-nits Display
8GB, 1x8GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400 rpm 2.5" SATA Hard Drive (Storage)

opinions would be brilliant thanks

I spoke to someone that was getting a 2070 max q laptop put together, when he told the company what he was upgrading from (a full 1060gtx laptop) they actually advised him not to upgrade, in their words it would be a sideways upgrade, the new rtx max q laptops that they put together have major thermal throttle issues and he would be no better off from what he owned. I'm saving to build my own desktop now anyway

2060 is similar to 1070. According to TheBottlenecker, there is a 8.45% average bottleneck - this is low, which means that should match together at least decently. However, as others have said, 8300H is on the lower side when compared to 8750H - seems like they are being cheap; would be concerned then about the build quality and the cooling, with you seemingly worried about the latter one given the prior experience.

OP, was it Omen 17t? I am considering it between GP/GE 73 with a 1060/1070.

I'm not going to lie, i dont understand what you mean by 17t? I'd love to answer your question if I understood what you meant

Yeah it was the the latest one on their website 8750h 1060gtx, it was a good lappy, undervolted it ran nice, the fans wouldn't max out but was still too loud to be able to sit next to the Mrs and game and her watch tv, I sent it back within the 14 days and got my money back no questions asked, they sent me a call of duty black ops 4 code and I got about £20 worth of fortnite gear for free out of it so I can't grumble :D
