Would any of this put you off a car listed on Autotrader

I'm interested in a car I've seen on Autotrader. It's a 54-reg Accord for sale at an independent dealer, and it states in the ad that the car is HPi-clear.

However, after running a vehicle check on the reg it throws up a couple of things:

1. The car is grey but the check lists it as silver

2. It has a Hire Purchase agreement recorded on it. Could it be that the finance company just hasn't removed this from the vehicle records?

3. It's only done 37k but has 2 previous keepers (does this mean I'd be the 3rd or 4th?)

Not sure what to make of it really, it looks alright in the pictures but the above seems slightly suspicious. Would it put you off?

Potentially. I would want to see evidence the finance had ben repaid, speakig to the company to confirm

3rd and no issue. Ex-demo?

1. Grey/Silver could be a mistake
2. Could be, but the dealer may not have cleared the finance on the car either.
3. As its a dealer car I would imagine that you will be the 3rd name on the log book

As with all things motoring if the 'feel' is not good then walk away, plenty of other cars out there where the 'feel' will be better. HPI is not a catch all and can be prone to errors. My car for example had 3 finance agreements on it according to HPI, two of which were dead but had not been removed by the Bank of Scotland (who have been usesless!) but now have..........so I am told.

Thanks for your replies guys.

It has the following recorded in the mileage log, 8 months after it was first registered:

BVRLA - MEMBER
15/08/2005
15,554 miles

Apparently BVRLA is something to do with vehicle rental and leasing. Does this mean it was owned by a vehicle rental company?

http://www.bvrla.co.uk/ ?

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association - Sounds like it.

I phoned the finance company this morning who told me that they "have interest" on the vehicle. I assume this means I shouldn't touch it?

This vehicle has outstanding finance on it which still hasn't been cleared. It is highly irregular that such a vehicle should be for sale at a DEALER.

Do not touch it.

He did say 'independant dealer' (as opposed to franchised dealer). That could be mean anything from a 1000 car supermarket to a bloke trading one car at a time from his front room.

My money is on the bloke in his sitting room that probably has un-opened letters from the finance company dotted about the place! :D

Run boy run!
