Would better graphics card help?

I curently have the following

X2 3800+ @2.8ghz
Xpertvision 8800GT 512mb @ 700core/1000mem
2gb Gskill HZ

If i sold my 8800 for around £40 or £50 and bought an XFX 4870 1GB (around £80 or £90) then would I see much of a difference in games like Crysis?

you would see a small difference but this is more likely due to you having more video ram space rather than a much faster card.

I would have thought your cpu would be presenting more of a problem than your gpu.
