I have a old HD which i want to get some stuff from but i cant start up the pc for some reason. I think its a powersupply issue. But its never gunna be started again so ..

Could i put my HD in my pc for a few minutes to get a few things? I dont want to do it unless im sure it wont mess up my windows. Last time i put my other old hd in and that messed up my boot system. I had XP trying load after it when i took out the HD. I had to completely reformat my hd and flash my bios again to get it away.

the Hd i want to get things from has W7 Rc 32bit installed. ( main hd is 64bit) will that give any issues?

It will have no effect on Windows whatsoever; Windows will only boot from whatever drive is set in the bios. Even if you accidentally set your old drive as the boot disk, it can only boot and fail. It won't affect your working Windows install.

To your computer, the hard disk you're going to add is merely a hard disk with data on it.

download ubuntu to your pc. burn to a cd with img burn.disconnect good hard drive.connect bad. boot from the ubuntu cd in trial mode so it runs from the cd.find the file and copy to a usb drive. hit power down on pc and swap back to your good hard drive.

I did this last night and it is very quick and effective :)

Why? He only needs to connect his old drive... Why bring another OS into the picture?
