Would I be wasting my time?

Currently on a "half way" motherboard with only 4x PCI-Express. I am looking at getting the PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XT as it looks a good buy for the price.

Would I be wasting my time with the rubbish 4x slot or are the cards not even using that kind of bandwidth yet? Would the slot be a massive bottleneck or is it like AGP and has years to go before the cards need that kind of bandwidth?

Thanks

And some other system spec's please :) I know with an 8x PCI-e it would work fine but I'm not sure about 4x.

I assume it's one of the ASRock boards ? Anandtech did some tests fairly recently - they concluded that for 7900GT / X1800XT level cards, the 4X PCI-E only causes a 5 % performance hit on average. Your X1950XT is a bit more powerful than these but I don't think the performance loss will be more than 10%. I would go for it, especially if you plan to keep the card for a while.

It's my "half way" step to conroedom. Next comes PCI Express, then a DS3.

Right now:

E6300 @ 2.25Ghz
1GB of really cheap Nanya RAM
Asrock 775 Dual VSTA (with AGP card currently fitted)
